| For those wanting quieter amusements there are some lovely walks, many vineyards with winetastings, famous wine centres such as Beaune, Chablis, Irancy and Nuits Saint Georges, historical and picturesque towns and cities such as Dijon, Epoisses, Semur en Auxois, Auxerre and Flavigny sur Ozerain (home of the film Chocolat). There are several large lakes, rivers such as La Cure renowned for rafting and canoeing including the European Championships and then visit one of the many excellent and varied restaurants in the area including La Vieille Auberge just across from the Chateau.
Throughout Spring and Summer there are many festivals, parades, firework displays and car boot sales. Many of the villages have regular markets and Avallon and Saulieu have large markets both indoor and outdoor and there is a huge Maximarche in Avallon.
